Seven years before he became Wilmington’s Fire Chief, Buddy Martinette responded to the 9-11 attack on the Pentagon as part of an elite Search and Rescue Task Force. Along with saving lives, his job was to help stabilize the building that serves as the headquarters for the United States Department of Defense. Now, 16 years later, Chief Martinette shares emotional stories of losing firefighter friends on that dark day in history, and his memories from a 40-plus year career in fire service.
